Rose veal producers
For many years people who care about where their food comes from have declined veal because of the conditions under which it is reared and the age it is killed. This type of veal is slaughtered at 18-20 weeks, and housed in hutches where their movement is restricted to prevent the growth of connective tissue which is seen as producing a desirable effect in the meat. Though this type of housing is illegal throughout much of Europe, you can't be sure of the provenance of veal in terms of the quality of life of the animal unless you buy Rose veal. A rose veal calf is slaughtered at 35 weeks, and is allowed to roam freely with its mothers and herd. Find rose veal producers and suppliers here.
